Memberships and members-only posts
- 1Open Memberships and create a tier: a name, a monthly price and what members get.
- 2Write a post in Posts and tick Members only. You can also email it to your members.
- 3To keep a post private while you work on it, press Save as draft; publish it later with one click (Publish now) from the list under New post. To publish at a set time, choose Schedule for a date and time under When and press Schedule post. Until it goes live the post isn’t on your page and nothing is emailed. Times are in your own timezone. At the time you chose, within about 15 minutes, it goes live and sends any emails you ticked. Until then you can edit it, publish it now, or cancel the schedule.
- 4Supporters join from your page. Each receipt includes their members’ link, which opens members-only posts on that device.
You can have up to five tiers. Each tier can also have a yearly price, so members can pay once a year instead. Many creators offer about two months free for paying yearly. If you change a price, it applies to new members only: current members keep the price they joined at, and nobody is ever charged more without agreeing to it. To ask current members to pay more, say so in a post; they can stop and join again at the new price if they want to.
Members can pause for one, two or three months, or stop, any time from the link in their receipt or from My support. Nobody is charged while paused, and it starts again by itself. When they stop, they can tell you why in one tap if they want to. You’ll see it next to their name, and a short summary under Why members stopped.
Each tier can also have a member limit, a whole number. When the tier has that many members, your page shows it as full and nobody new can join until a place opens. Members you already have are never removed. Leave it empty for no limit.
Under your tiers on the Memberships page you can write your own membership terms, up to 2000 characters. They show above your tiers on your page, and a person must tick a box to agree before they can join. Leave the box empty to remove them. People already in a tier are not asked again.
Each tier can have a welcome message, written in your own words (up to 600 characters). It is sent in the email a new member gets when they join that tier, and again in the free-trial email if the tier has one. Renewal receipts do not repeat it.
Each tier can have a free trial of 7, 14 or 30 days. Choose it when you edit the tier. On your page the tier says, for example, “7-day free trial”. New members still enter their card, nothing is charged during the trial, and about 3 days before the first charge we email them the date and amount and how to cancel. They can cancel any time before then and pay nothing. Trial members get their members’ link in the email we send when the trial starts. A trial is for a person’s first membership with you, once: if they’ve had one or already joined, they join at the full price. Discount codes can’t be used with a trial. Free trials work for card memberships only; PayPal doesn’t cover memberships or trials.
To see what each tier brings in, open Insights. Under Members by tier you’ll find your members per tier, how many pay monthly or yearly, and what each tier received in the period you pick, after refunds.
